背景
感染予防・制御（IPC）方策は、医療関連感染のリスクを減少させるのに極めて重要である。
目的
カナダの Alberta Health Services/Covenant Health の現場において IPC に関してエビデンスギャップが存在する IPC の具体的な研究課題を、コンセンサスによって特定すること。
方法
学際的な委員会が、コンセンサスの過程に情報を提供した。IPC の専門知識がある人（デルファイ委員会）が、課題の最初の一組を特定した（デルファイラウンド 1）。課題は、共通するテーマとカテゴリーごとにまとめられた。委員会は、研究課題の最終候補を選ぶために、暫定的な優先順位付けを実施した。スノーボールサンプリングを使って、地元と全国の IPC パートナーが、各研究課題を重要性の水準によって順位付けし、その前のラウンドで見落とされた課題を追加した（デルファイラウンド 2）。コンセンサス会議では、研究課題の優先順位付けを行うのに、James Lind Alliance およびノミナル・グループ技法の要素を組み入れた。参加者は、感染制御の専門家、IPC の指導者層、IPC、感染症、微生物学分野の医師、疫学者、分析者、官僚、品質と安全性の代表者、抗菌薬適正使用支援の代表者、研究者、患者／家族の助言者、等であった。
結果
最初に 159 件の課題があり、63 件が研究課題として分類された。暫定的な優先順位付けと 2 回目のデルファイラウンドの後、21 件の課題が、コンセンサス会議で提示された。上位 10 件の研究課題が 5 つのテーマに分類された。すなわち、医療従事者による行動科学戦略、患者の環境の影響、IPC ガイドラインの評価、介入の有効性、サーベイランスとモニタリング、であった。
結論
このコンセンサスを得る試みによって、医療従事者、医療の指導者、研究者、患者にとって重要な IPC の研究課題が特定された。この研究によって、IPC についての全国的な研究課題を作り上げるカナダ全体での対話が生まれるかもしれない。
