病院感染管理は医療の質および患者安全性の中心となる。消毒用品は病院の感染予防・制御（IPC）に重要な役割を果たし、感染の転帰と資源利用の両方に影響を及ぼす。医療資源は制約を受けることが増え、感染リスクは進化し続ける中で、経済的に十分な情報を得た上での意思決定を通じて消毒用品管理の効率を向上させることが、ますます重要となっている。本記述的レビューでは、費用構造、経済的負担、および費用分析、費用対効果分析、費用便益分析、資源配分評価などの評価方法に焦点を合わせ、経済的観点から病院感染管理における消毒用品を検討する。また、標準化された管理、ワークフローの最適化、新たな技術の選択的採用が、業務効率および感染予防転帰にどのような影響を及ぼしうるのかも論じる。現在のエビデンスからは、消毒用品管理の経済的影響は、調達費用を超え、労働、トレーニング、モニタリング、機器の使用、感染予防失敗に伴う下流の費用にまで広がることが示されている。しかしながら、エビデンスの基盤は方法、転帰、臨床環境において依然として不均一である。したがって、より広範でより状況に応じた経済的観点が、病院が資源配分を最適化し、IPC 実践を強化し、将来の研究および管理に関する決定を支援するために有用となる可能性がある。
