New disinfectant for greywater systems: evaluation of antibacterial activity

微生物は、好ましい環境においては、長期間にわたり、グレイウオーター・システムの配管の内側を覆うバイオフィルムの中で存続または増殖することができる。本研究の目的は、ポリ塩化ビニル（PVC）管に強力に付着し、優れた抗菌作用を示す革新的な消毒薬を開発することであった。標準的な試験およびプロトコールを用いて、形成中および形成前のバイオフィルムに対する有効性を評価した。その結果、この新規消毒薬は、PVC 表面の黄色ブドウ球菌（Staphylococcus aureus）、エンテロコッカス・ヒラエ（Enterococcus hirae）、大腸菌（Escherichia coli）、肺炎桿菌（Klebsiella pneumoniae）および緑膿菌（Pseudomonas aeruginosa）に対して高い効果を示すことがわかった。注目すべきことに、この新規消毒薬の性能は、一般的に使用される消毒薬の性能を上回った。これらの結果から、この新規消毒薬はグレイウオーター・システムの配管を効果的かつ持続的に消毒し、消毒薬の過剰使用の必要性を低減する可能性があることが示唆される。

グレイウオーターとは、病院でシャワー・洗濯機・浴槽などから出るトイレの汚物と接触しない未処理の廃水をさす。グレイウオーターでもグレイウオーター・システムの配管の内側を覆うバイオフィルムの中で存続または増殖するので、グレイウオーター・システムの配管のメンテナンスが重要である。
