クロストリジオイデス・ディフィシル（Clostridioides difficile）感染症（CDI）を院内発症または市中発症とに分類するために使用するアルゴリズムは、従来、患者の入院日から検体採取日までの期間に基づいて分類されてきた。しかし、この方法では、患者が入院の前に救急部に滞在していたことは考慮されていない。英国保健安全庁はこの課題を解決するために2024 年より改訂した定義を導入した。英国では、2020 年 4 月から 2024 年 3 月の間に、従来の定義により院内発症 CDI の症例の 6.7％が市中発症型と誤分類されていた。この結果は、英国の CDI 発症定義を更新しより正確で標準化された分類を確保する理論的根拠を裏付けるものである。
