セラチア・マルセッセンス（Serratia marcescens）は、カルバペネム耐性を有する院内感染病原体であり、この耐性のために効果的な治療選択肢が限られている。本研究では、日本で発生したアウトブレイクから分離された GES-5 カルバペネマーゼ産生 S. marcescens の分子特性を解析した。比較遺伝学的解析により、bla_GES-5 をコードするプラスミド p2020-O-9 は、カルバペネム耐性に寄与する特有なプラスミドであることが明らかになった。さらに、本研究から、臨床環境において新規および高頻度に発生するカルバペネマーゼの両方に対してモニタリングを行うサーベイランスプログラムの必要性が強調される。

日本からの GES-5 カルバペネマーゼ産生 S. marcescensの報告である。GES 型カルバペネマーゼはセリン型カルバペネマーゼの 1 種で、日本でも報告が増えてきている。
