クロストリジウム・ディフィシル（Clostridium difficile）感染症（CDI）は、その症例数の増加および重症度の上昇から、急性期病院における重大な健康上の懸念である。Nationwide Inpatient Sample データベースを用いて、2005 年から 2014 年の急性期病院における CDI 患者の発生件数、死亡件数および入院費の傾向に関する 10 年間のレビューを実施した。本レビューにより、10 年間の研究期間中に CDI の発生および入院費の増加が認められたが、死亡は減少したことが示された。

監訳者コメント：
米国の急性期病院における過去 10 年間の CDI 患者についてまとめた論文である。死亡の減少には、診断技術の進歩による早期診断が大きく寄与しているとされていた。診断や治療薬の開発とその臨床での価値は長期に観察することで数字として見えてくることがよくわかった。
