Impact of environmental olfactory cues on hand hygiene behaviour in a simulated hospital environment: a randomized study

本研究では、新人の医療従事者の手指衛生遵守率に対する「新鮮な香り」の影響について調べた。合計 165 名の参加者が標準化された患者^※を診察し、この際に一方の群（79 名）は新鮮な香りがする環境で、もう一方の群（86 名）は標準的な環境で行った。ビデオ監視システムにより、患者との接触前の手指衛生行動を追跡した。手指衛生遵守率は、標準的な環境の群では 51％であったが、新鮮な香りの群ではそれより高い 80％であった（P ＜ 0.001）。このデータは、手指衛生行動は潜在意識下で環境からの刺激に影響されると考えられることを示している。
