病院感染が発生すると費用が必要となることから、発生の減少を図るための方針が求められる。対策として服装規定がしばしば実施されるが、科学的エビデンスに基づいたものはほとんどない。本研究は、シャツの袖とネクタイが医師から患者への細菌伝播に及ぼす影響を検討する前向き比較調査である。その結果から、固定されていないネクタイの着用により伝播が増加するが、袖の長さは伝播率に影響しないことが示された。この研究デザインは、医療従事者から患者への微生物伝播に関するエビデンスを補うための今後の比較実験のモデルとなると考えられる。

接触感染の対応上制服や装具、持ち運ぶ医療器具など間接的なかかわり合いは大変重要である。袖の長さは伝播率に影響しないというのは真実かどうか・・・。
