本研究では、オーストラリアの病院で実施された「ドライ」過酸化水素蒸気による汚染除去の効果を 2 段階の試験により評価した。In vivo 試験では、病棟内の高頻度接触部位のベースラインの細菌数を測定し、中性洗剤による清掃後の過酸化水素蒸気による汚染除去、または中性洗剤による清掃後の漂白剤または Det-Sol 500 による用手的最終清掃の効果を評価した。In vitro 試験では、オーストラリアの病院病棟における種々の一般的な環境表面に規定濃度のバンコマイシン耐性腸球菌を意図的に付着させ、過酸化水素蒸気による汚染除去の効果を調べた。接触培地法により全細菌数を評価した。In vivo 試験では、過酸化水素による汚染除去後の好気性細菌数は、評価を行った高頻度接触部位の 33.3%で検出限界未満(すなわち細菌の回収なし)であり、いずれも最大細菌数は 3 cfu/cm2 以下であった。一方 in vitro 試験では、調査したすべての表面で細菌量が 10 分の 1 以下に減少した。微生物の回収は環境表面の性状の影響を受けるため、今回の方法で得た清浄度のデータを異なる表面で単純に比較することはできないものの、上記の結果から、ドライ過酸化水素蒸気による室内の種々の表面に対する汚染除去の効果は高いことが示された。

監訳者コメント:

過酸化水素による環境汚染の除去効果はすでに多く報告されているが、その性状はまだ統一されていない。霧状のものか気体であるかの 2 つが主であり、本論文では気体、すなわち「ドライ」な過酸化水素を使用している。効果はこれまでの報告と同様、高いものとなっており、環境制御の有用な手段であることは確実と思われる。
