著者らは、Nocardia farcinicaによるノカルジア症を同一病棟で6カ月間に3例経験した。Randomly amplified polymorphic DNA(RAPD)法による遺伝子解析の結果は、同じパターンを示した。したがって、これらの3例は同一のN. farcinica菌株によるものと考えられ、院内感染の可能性を示唆している。

起因菌不明の日和見感染に際し、N. farcinicaを念頭に置く必要性を感じさせる論文である。本報告は日本国内からなされており、どの施設でも起こりうる事例である。
