病院内でウイルスの拡散と感染伝播を抑制するためには、ドアを閉めた状態で使用している隔離室の換気空調が不可欠である。隔離室内の換気装置の配置に応じた気流の動きを調べるためには、コンピューター流体力学を用いた工学シミュレーションが有用な手段となる。換気システム装置の配置に応じた隔離室内でのウイルス拡散の数値シミュレーションを実施するために、咳モデルを考案した。また、換気装置の配置ごとに、隔離室内で飛沫が降下した場所の解析、および咳で吐き出された空気で拡散するウイルスの希釈時間の解析を行った。本研究で示した数値の結果から、ウイルス飛沫を含有する気流を制御するには、並行する方向の気流パターンが最も効果的であることが示された。さらに、ベッド頭部側の後方の壁にある排気口の位置に対して、部屋の反対側であるドア側の吸気口をずらして設置することにより、感染拡大の制御および抑制を効果的に行うことができた。これらの結果は、隔離室で医療処置を行う場合には、換気装置を特定の配置にすることによって職員の安全性が増大することを示唆している。

台湾國立成功大学・工学部からの論文である。空気感染予防策には陰圧空調管理が必要であり、周囲に対して陰圧で1時間あたり6～12回は室内気が入れ替わるように求められている。病室内の空気は外部へ排出されるのが適当であるが、HEPAフィルタを使用していれば再循環させてもよい。この論文では換気装置の配置方法によってより安全かつ効率的な空気感染対策が実践できることを示している。
