患者 4 例の縦断的サンプルからのエムポックスウイルス分離によりその後の伝播リスクを推測する：中間解析★

エムポックスウイルスはオルソポックスウイルス属の DNA ウイルスで、エムポックス（以前の名称は「サル痘」）の原因となる。その症状には、発熱、リンパ節腫脹、水疱性病変などがある。エムポックスウイルスにおける感染性の持続期間についてのエビデンスは限られている。本研究では、細胞培養を感染性の代理として用いた。エムポックス 患者 4 例から得た臨床サンプルを、アフリカミドリザルの腎（Vero E6）細胞に播種し、細胞変性効果についてモニタリングした。患者 1 例から、感染性を有するエムポックスウイルスが発症後 25 日目に回収された。感染性を有するウイルスは、オルソポックスウイルス PCRの Ct 値 ＞ 31.0 の場合、または尿からは分離されなかった。
監訳者コメント：
エムポックスの感染性について実験的に検討した論文である。発症後 25 日目でも感染性を有するウイルスが検出されたことは特記すべきことである。また、ウイルス分離と PCR の Ct 値との比較では、Ct 値＞ 31 の場合に感染性を有するウイルスは検出されなかったので、感染性評価の参考になるだろう。
