空気清浄システムによる室内空気中のウイルス負荷エアロゾル減少機能を実証する試験方法の確立と適用★

背景
COVID-19 の世界的なパンデミックは、エアロゾル化したウイルスを除去し伝播を減少させるための室内環境の換気の改善に対する関心の高まりをもたらした。空気清浄システムは、エアロゾル除去を改善させる解決策として提案されている。
目的
空気清浄システムによる室内環境空気中のウイルス量の減少効果を明らかにすることを目的とした。
方法
吸気および排気口に HEPA フィルターを装備した封じ込め室を構築した。封じ込め室は、吸気口経由でバイオセーフティーレベル 2(BSL-2)の施設に接続された。BSL-2 からネココロナウイルス(FCoV)負荷エアロゾルを封じ込め室に放出した。噴霧後、空気清浄システムによる清浄空気供給率を評価する前に、空気中のウイルス量を測定するためエアサンプリングを実施した。捕獲されたウイルスの感染性も検査した。
結果
空気清浄システムは、1 時間に空気中のウイルス量の 97 ~ 99%の減少を実現した。
捕獲された感染性 FCoV は、電気集塵技術を用いることによって 99.9 ~ 99.99%減少した。
結論
電気集塵技術または HEPA フィルターをを用いた空気清浄システムは、空気中のウイルス量を減少させる。電気集塵清浄機は、捕獲された FCoV を不活化する。したがって、空気清浄システムは補助的な感染制御策として使用できる。
監訳者コメント:
SARS-CoV-2 類似のネココロナウイルス(FCoV)を使用して、空気清浄機の効果を調べた報告で、結論はシンプルで空気清浄機は補助的な感染制御策と有効としている。スイスの中学校でマスク着用に比べると空気清浄機使用単独の場合はウイルス量を減少させるが感染予防効果は見られなかったという別の報告(https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pmed.1004226)もあり、空気清浄機単独では不十分で、複合的な感染対策が必要と考えたほうがよさそうである。Journal of Hospital Infection (2023) 135, 81-89 も合わせて読むとよい。
