世界ポリオ根絶イニシアチブ（Global Polio Eradication initiative）の目標は、世界的にポリオを根絶することにある。つまり化学消毒薬の殺ウイルス効果の評価に、ポリオウイルス 1 型 LSc 2ab 株（PV-1）が使用できなくなることを意味している。本稿では、器具・表面消毒における殺生物薬の殺ウイルス効果試験において、PV-1 の適切な代用微生物としてマウスパルボウイルス ATCC VR 1346（マウス微小ウイルス）を評価した。グルタルアルデヒド（0.01 ～ 0.25％）と過酢酸（0.005 ～ 0.1％）を有効成分とする市販の 2 種類の殺生物薬を用いて、30 分間の曝露時間を設定し、異なる実験室で浮遊試験を実施した。German and European Guidelines に従い、両病原体とも感受性および用量依存的なウイルス力価の低下が同等であることが認められた。

監訳者コメント：

ポリオウイルスは安定した、エンベロープを持たない親水性ウイルスであり、医療で使用される強力な化学消毒剤の活性を評価するために使用されている。ポリオを根絶する観点から使用ができなくなり、その代用として本研究からマウスパルボウイルスが候補のひとつになりそうである。
