重症急性呼吸器症候群コロナウイルス-2 の最大ウイルス量は口腔内で検出でき、そのため点鼻および口腔スプレーによって感染性ウイルスが潜在的に減少すると、伝播が減少する可能性がある。そのため、9 種の点鼻および口腔スプレーの不活化能力を、EN 14476 に従って評価した。次亜塩素酸ナトリウムを主薬とする点鼻スプレー 1 種と、精油を含む口腔スプレー 1 種は、ウイルス力価を 2 ~ 3 桁減少させた。臨床データは依然として乏しいが、点鼻および口腔スプレーは、高齢者や口をすすいだりうがいをしたりできない人々にとって、より便利な投与方法であることが示されている。

監訳者コメント:

鼻汁の模擬検体に新型コロナウイルスを混合後の感染細胞の変化を観察した in vitro の実験である。次亜塩素酸ナトリウムは皮膚・粘膜刺激性が強いため,皮膚・粘膜等の生体消毒薬としては現在使用されていない
