造影コンピュータ断層撮影（CT）検査を受けた患者 4 例が、汚染された塩化ナトリウムの複数回投与バイアルから C 型肝炎ウイルスに感染した。本アウトブレイクは安全な注射手技の不履行が原因で発生し、バイアルの汚染を引き起こした可能性が高い。同じバイアルに曝露された患者全員が感染したわけではない。感染の不均等な分布は低い感染用量の確率的影響に起因する可能性がある。このことによって、アウトブレイク調査は院内感染の確認または除外のために最初に特定された感染患者の前後に予定が組まれたすべての患者にまで広げる必要があることが示唆される。

監訳者コメント：
血液媒介感染症は複数回投与バイアルの使用が感染リスクとなるが、単回投与の重要性が改めて認識できる報告である。
