アウトブレイクにおけるスーパースプレッディングイベント（SSE）は流行の性質を変えることがある。したがって公衆衛生チームが進行中のアウトブレイクにそのようなイベントが関与しているかどうか判定することは有益であり、介入を行いやすい可能性がある。我々は香港、日本、シンガポールにおける新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）の症例に疫学的に関連するクラスターの経験的データから基本再生産数（R₀）、分散係数（k）を推定した。これによりこれらのアウトブレイクの初期段階でSSEの有無を推測することができた。k 値が比較的大きいと、SSE と互換性のある大きなクラスターサイズの可能性は低いことが示唆された。

2020 年 3 月 3 日時点での香港、日本、シンガポールでの COVID-19 のクラスターからのスーパースプレッドイベント（SSE）の推測。日本では SSE が起こりやすい環境として「三つの密」が有名になった。3 国とも流行初期には基本再生産数（R₀）も低く、COVID-19 の流行が制御されているのがわかる。分散係数（k）はデータの分布の広がりを表す指標のことである。
