小児集中治療および小児感染症部門を有する英国の地域小児病院において、小児科抗菌薬管理プログラムの特徴を記述するために調査を行った。構造化されたアンケートを小児科抗菌薬管理プログラムのコーディネーターに送付した。「監査およびフィードバック」を17 施設中 13 施設で実施した。微生物学主導の施設では、抗菌薬の制限を行っている割合が高く（75％、これに対して小児感染症学主導の施設では 33％）、広域抗菌薬に重点を置いている割合が高く、血液培養陽性の患者にレビューを行っている割合が高かった。小児感染症学主導の施設では、電子処方または薬物チャートから患者を同定し、すべての抗菌薬についてレビューを行っている割合が高かった。現在のところ、小児科抗菌薬管理プログラムが確立されている。

監訳者コメント：
英国での小児科抗菌薬管理プログラムの報告。微生物学主導の施設と小児感染症学主導の施設でプログラムの考え方にかくも違いがあることは興味深い。日本で小児病院だけでなく、総合病院で微生物学主導と臨床感染症学主導で同様の調査をしても面白いかもしれない。
