Evaluation of droplet production by a new design of clinical handwash basin for the healthcare environment

手洗い用洗面台から発生する飛沫は、医療環境における細菌源となる可能性がある。飛沫を少なくする新しい洗面台について、シミュレーションした手洗いを行った際の、飛沫の抑制能力を評価した。この洗面台を、医療環境で広く用いられている 2 つの従来型洗面台と比較した。洗面台を検査システム上に載せ、手洗いを行う場合と行わない場合について、蛇口から 30 秒間水を流した。飛沫は、蛍光色素により可視化した。従来型の洗面台では、30 秒間の流水時に 1,000 個を超える飛沫が形成され、2 m を超えて拡散することが分かった。新しい洗面台では、手洗い時に形成される飛沫数が有意に少なく、拡散する距離も短縮した。

監訳者コメント：
洗面台から飛散・跳ね上がる飛沫が医療従事者や周辺の環境に飛ぶことによって、細菌の汚染が広がることはかねてから問題となっていた。このため飛散・汚染の少ない洗面台へと改良が進んでいる。本研究はその一例であり、改良はまだ途上であろう。今後の検討とさらなる改良に注目したい。
