Nosocomial outbreak of Pseudomonas aeruginosa associated with a drinking water fountain

当院耳鼻咽喉科で 4 か月間に患者 10 例が緑膿菌（Pseudomonas aeruginosa）院内感染を疑われた。環境分離株と臨床分離株の比較を行った。緑膿菌で汚染されていたのは水飲み器からの水のみであった。この分離株と患者 3 例の分離株の random amplified polymorphic DNA のプロファイルは、識別不能であった。これらの患者は重篤な腫瘍疾患を有していた。水飲み器は経皮的内視鏡下胃瘻造設術後の栄養補給の際に用いられており、アウトブレイクの発生源となった。先端の紫外線処理を行う別の種類の水飲み器を設置し、その後は飲用水に関連する新たな感染は認められなかった。

監訳者コメント：
配管系に関しては、末端塩素濃度の確認や清掃など日常的なメンテナンスが重要である。フィルターを介しているつもりでも、フィルター自体の破損による汚染も起こり得るため注意が必要である。また、使用頻度の少ない蛇口の運用にも配慮する必要がある。
