イングランドでは 2010 年以降、メチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌（meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus；MRSA）に対する入院時の普遍的スクリーニングが実施されている。著者らは、MRSA 検出のための入院時の普遍的スクリーニングの初年度データに基づく回帰モデルの予測能を評価した。従来の選択的スクリーニング方針を適用した場合は、スクリーニング対象の患者数は 75％少なかったと推定された（1 年間で 21,699 例）。しかしこれによって特定できたのは、全 MRSA 保菌者の約 55％、医療関連 MRSA 株の 65％、市中獲得型 MRSA 株の 40％のみであったと推定された。入院時に MRSA 保菌患者の約 45％（1 年間で 262 例）を特定できないことは、MRSA 制御にとって重要な意義があると考えられる。

監訳者コメント：
この論文では MRSA をどのようにスクリーニングしたのか書かれていない。極めて質の低い論文だと考える（おそらく培養法であろう）。
