Do active safety-needle devices cause spatter contamination?

血液・体液への曝露は医療環境における職業上の危険である。針刺し事故による血液媒介ウイルス伝播の可能性については広く研究されているが、安全装置付き針・シリンジからの飛散による汚染を介するウイルス伝播リスクは十分に研究されていない。本報では、使用頻度が高い3種類の安全装置付き針によるウイルス伝播リスクについて調査するとともに、これによって新たに重大な危険がもたらされる可能性を提起する。このような危険を定量的に評価するため、およびシリンジの取り外しや安全装置作動の後の飛散による汚染が最も小さい安全装置付き針はどのような種類のものであるかを明らかにするためには、さらなる研究が必要である。

バネ構造で針を動かすときに，血液成分が飛沫する可能性を本論文は指摘している。すなわち針刺しは防ぐことができても血液曝露をゼロにはできない可能性があるのだ。報告者は蛍光剤を用いてこの実証を試みている。
