ウイルス性出血熱（VHF）は通常、急速に進行する急性発熱性症候群として発症し、重度の出血症状を伴い、致死率は極めて高い。ヒトからヒトへ伝播し大規模な院内アウトブレイクを引き起こす可能性のある VHF には、クリミア・コンゴ出血熱、エボラ出血熱、マールブルグ出血熱、およびラッサ熱などがある。近年は VHF の院内アウトブレイクの報告が増加しており、このことは VHF の発生動態を反映していると考えられる。人命や、症例管理・接触者の追跡・封じ込めにかかわる費用の点で、これらのアウトブレイクの影響は甚大である。ほとんどの流行国では、VHF のサーベイランス、診断能、感染制御、および院内の VHF イベントの管理に対する全般的な準備状況は非常に限られている。臨床環境での VHF の診断能を向上させ、その価格は安価にする必要がある。適切な防護具が利用できるようにすること、および安全な臨床実践と感染制御に関する医療従事者の教育が、VHF 院内伝播予防の柱である。

監訳者コメント：
輸入感染症としてのウイルス性出血熱であるが、わが国ではごく限られた指定医療機関でのみ、取り組みがなされている。情報を周知し、さらなる備えを考えるべきであろう。
