中心静脈ラインの操作および静脈内投与の調製には無菌操作が必要である。本研究の目的は、無菌操作の相違が、院内調製での静脈内投与における汚染率に影響するかどうかを調べることである。調剤士 1 名と看護師 5 名が調製した、トリプトンソーヤブイヨン試験培地を充填した注射器の汚染状況を評価した。調剤士による汚染率は看護師よりも低率であった（0.0％対 6.9％、Fisher の正確確率検定、P ＜ 0.001）。汚染率は看護師間に有意差がみられた（約 2％から 17％、2 値ロジスティック回帰、P ＝ 0.018）。結論として、日常の臨床業務に無菌操作の適切な研修・実習を組み入れることによって、汚染率の低下を図るべきである。
