クロストリジウム・ディフィシル(Clostridium difficile)芽胞は感染患者から多量に排出され、乾燥処理や消毒薬に抵抗性を示す。複数株の C. difficile 芽胞に対する過酸化水素蒸気の in vitro 活性を、芽胞・担体試験(spore-carrier test)を用いて調べた。平均 4.7 ~ 6.9 log10 の芽胞をポリ塩化ビニルまたはラミネート製の担体に接種して乾燥させ、次いで過酸化水素蒸気により汚染除去を行った。C. difficile 株や表面の材質にかかわらず、C. difficile は曝露された担体から完全に除去された。過酸化水素蒸気は、病院環境からの C. difficile 芽胞の除去法の候補となり得る。
