Effect of biofilm formation on the survival of Acinetobacter baumannii on dry surfaces

背景
アシネトバクター・バウマニー（Acinetobacter baumannii）は、病院内の重大な病原体となりつつあり、環境内で長期間の生存が可能である。この細菌はバイオフィルム、すなわち細菌の集合体を内包する保護的な高分子マトリックスを形成することが知られている。
目的
A. baumannii によるバイオフィルム形成の影響が、病院環境中の本菌の生存と関連しているかどうかを明らかにすること。
方法
乾燥表面上の A. baumannii の生存に対するバイオフィルム形成の影響を調べるため、バイオフィルム形成株と非形成株を比較した。生存試験として、カバーガラス上に A. baumannii を接種し、規定の温度および相対湿度下で保存後、生菌数を計数した。
結果
バイオフィルム形成株の生存期間は非形成株よりも長かった（36 日対 15 日、P ＜ 0.001）。走査型および透過型電子顕微鏡検査では、バイオフィルム形成株の菌体周囲に多糖層および付属器官が認められたが、非形成株にはみられなかった。
結論
バイオフィルム形成は乾燥表面上の A. baumannii の生存率を上昇させ、病院環境中の本菌の生存に寄与していると考えられることから、院内感染およびアウトブレイクの発生率を上昇させる可能性がある。
