Wristwatch use and hospital-acquired infection

腕時計装着者および非装着者を対象とした連続2件の横断的コホート研究を実施し、病院に勤務する医療従事者の手首と手指から試料を採取して細菌汚染を調べた。1件目の研究（100例）では、手首の試料を皮膚のスワブで採取し、手の試料は直接プレートに接種した。2件目の研究（155例）では、手首の試料を各医療従事者が腕時計を外した直後に採取した。1件目の研究では、黄色ブドウ球菌（Staphylococcus aureus）が腕時計装着者の25％、腕時計非装着者の22.9％に認められた。腕時計装着者の手首の菌数は非装着者より多かった（P ＜ 0.001）が、手指の菌数には差がなかった。2件目の研究では、試料採取前に腕時計を外した場合は、手指と手首の両方の菌数が腕時計非装着者と比較して多かった（P ＜ 0.001）。結論として、腕時計の装着により手首の細菌汚染が増加するが、時計に接触しなければ手指の汚染が増加することはない。

監訳者コメント：
結果評価として“時計にさわらなければ”とあるが、時計にはさわるであろうから、時計はしないほうがよいとの論旨も成り立つ。指輪やつけ爪なども同様である。
