安全な業務遂行の促進を目的とした感染管理および労働衛生のために利用可能なリソース^※の調査は、医療従事者の認識についての調査と比較すると、ほとんどない。本研究の目的は、重症急性呼吸器症候群（SARS）アウトブレイク後に、感染管理および労働衛生のために利用可能なリソースを特定し、これを医療従事者のリソースに対する認識と比較することである。感染管理および労働衛生のためのリソース調査と、医療従事者が記入した質問票を、施設内の観察調査の結果と比較した。医療従事者は、将来のSARSのような事例を防止するには防御計画が利用可能であると考えていたが、この調査により多くの施設では防御策が存在しないことが判明した。SARS後の労働衛生および感染管理のためのリソースはいずれも不十分であり、さらに労働衛生の専門家は特にブリティッシュコロンビア州で不足していた。医療従事者が認識している利用可能なリソースと、実際に施設で利用可能なリソースの間には乖離がみられる。感染管理および労働衛生の専門家は、コミュニケーションを重視する必要がある。
