リゾビウム・ラディオバクター（Rhizobium radiobacter）は、土壌中に存在するまれな日和見病原体（平素無害病原体）であり、とくに易感染性患者の血管内留置器材に関連する。この論文では、自己造血幹細胞移植のための貯血に際して R. radiobacter 菌血症を発症した多発性骨髄腫の症例について報告する。後向き研究の結果、化学療法および自己幹細胞貯血用のためのアクセスとして中心静脈カテーテルを留置した後に土壌への曝露があったことが判明した。本稿は土壌への曝露によってカテーテルへ細菌が定着したと考えられる R. radiobacter 菌血症症例の初の報告である。さらに、R. radiobacter によるカテーテル由来感染に対する予防および治療の推奨策を明らかにするために文献をレビューした。
