Mycobacterium fortuitum complexは、迅速に発育する抗酸菌の一群である。これらの日和見病原体は、生体材料を使用する外科手術での感染と関連することが多い。鼠径ヘルニア修復術の前向き研究で、2例のM. fortuitum感染が発生した。これらの感染は、発症機序、臨床症状、および予防的または治療的な抗生物質療法の両者に対する抵抗性の点で、他の細菌による感染とは異なっていた。
