Survey of acute hospital infection control resources and services in the Republic of Ireland

抗菌薬耐性の制御に関する全国的なガイドラインが2001年に作成されたことを受けて、2003年にアイルランド共和国の68のすべての急性期病院で、院内感染の制御および予防に利用可能なリソースおよび現行の実施状況に関する調査を実施した。66の病院（97％）から適切に回答された質問票を回収した。病院あたりの急性期入院患者用ベッド数の中央値は156床で、地域/第三次紹介施設では522床であった。現場でコンサルテーションを受ける微生物学者によるセッションがあった病院は31（47％）のみであり、感染管理看護師が在籍していた病院は56（85％）であった。産業医は18（29％）の病院に在籍し、感染対策委員会を設置している病院は48（73％）であった。データを提供したこれらの病院では、1つの隔離室の急性期ベッド数の中央値は16床で、病院あたりの浴室設備付き病室数の中央値は5部屋であった。すべての病院が感染制御方針を文書化しており、これらを電子フォーマットで利用可能な病院は25（38％）であった。院内感染サーベイランスを実施した病院は55（83％）、アルコール手指消毒設備が手洗い洗面台または病棟入口のいずれかに設置された病院は57（86％）であった。アイルランド共和国では、依然として微生物学者/感染管理医師、産業医、および感染管理看護師が著しく不足している。また、隔離施設も不十分である。院内感染の重要性およびサーベイランスの優先順位に関する多くの国際的合意があるにもかかわらず、院内感染の制御および防止のために必要な資源および設備に関する基本的な最低基準については合意がない。
