Ethanol disinfection of plastic-adherent micro-organisms

本研究は、ライン感染の原因となることが多いプラスチック付着菌に対するエタノール/水（70：30 vol：vol）の殺菌効果を調査した。実験はポリカーボネート製ウェルで実施し、培養はすべて37℃で行った。ブロス中の細菌をウェルに接種して培養後（16、40、および72時間）、洗浄して非付着菌を除去し、エタノール/水に曝露した。次に、ウェルにブロスを加え再培養し、生存細菌を検出した。16時間培養したすべての菌は、70％エタノールに1時間曝露することによって死滅した。40時間の培養後、カンジダ・アルビカンス（Candida albicans）の2つの菌株を死滅させるためには、エタノール曝露が4時間必要だった。同様に、72時間培養した肺炎桿菌（Klebsiella pneumoniae）および緑膿菌それぞれの3種のうちの1種が、70％エタノールへの1時間の曝露後に増殖を示したが、4時間の曝露後には増殖は認められなかった。これらの結果は、エタノール/水の溶液によって数秒で死滅する対数期の細菌とは対照的に、プラスチック付着菌はエタノールの殺菌作用に対して高い耐性をもつことを示唆している。
