3カ所のナーシングホーム(500名)での黄色ブドウ球菌の鼻腔内保菌率は36.6%であった。メチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌(MRSA)は検出されなかった。黄色ブドウ球菌の鼻腔内保菌に対する有意な危険因子(リスクファクター)が以下のように特定された。血管性認知障害[オッズ比(OR)0.31]、糖尿病(OR 1.82)、高血圧(OR 0.30)、慢性閉塞性肺疾患(OR 1.86)、脳卒中(OR 3.31)、過去3カ月以内の抗生物質による治療(OR 2.10)、および要介護レベル2(定義は、日常生活動作の補助が1日あたり4時間まで必要とする高度の依存度)(OR 1.97)。他国に比べて、ドイツのナーシングホーム居住者のMRSAの鼻腔内保菌率は低い。
