Removal of virus from hands: a study on the role of washing and drying

背景

適切な手指衛生は、病原体の伝播を制御する上で極めて重要である。細菌による手指の汚染に対する洗浄および乾燥の影響について多くの研究が実施されてきたが、ウイルスによる汚染に関する研究は少ない。

目的

人工的に汚染させた手指について、洗浄後および乾燥後のウイルス量を評価すること。

方法

ボランティア 30 例が手指衛生に関する質問票に回答し、手指上のウイルスを定量するために、全手指法を用いて5 種類の乾燥法を試験する微生物検査に参加した。比較のために、細菌検査も実施した。

結果

ウイルスと細菌の両方について、洗浄のステップにより微生物量の有意な減少が促進された一方、乾燥のステップでは、使用した乾燥法にかかわらず、わずかな減少しか促進されなかった。手指乾燥機およびペーパータオルについては、洗浄した手指に対する再汚染は誘発されなかった。

結論

手指洗浄は、手指における微生物量の減少を促進したが、試験を行った乾燥方法のうちで、手指における微生物量の有意な減少をもたらしたものはなかった。

監訳者コメント：

濡れたままの手指は乾燥した手指よりも新たに触れる環境から微生物を付着させることになるため、新たに微生物を付着させないために手指乾燥が重要であると考える。ペーパータオルの使用前後では手指の付着ウイルスに有意差をもって減少が認められており、ペーパ−タオルによるウイルスの物理的な除去があった可能性がある。ドライヤーによる手指乾燥は微生物数の減少が目的ではなく、濡れた手指の再汚染を防ぐ目的であり、一方ペーパータオルは手指洗浄では除去しきれなかった微生物を物理的に除去できる可能性があると推察される。
