COVID-19 アウトブレイク以降、消毒のための紫外線(UV)-C 波への注目度が高まっている。現在、殺菌性能に影響する多様な特性をもつさまざまな UV-C システムが市場に出ている。そこで、本レビューでは、UV-C による消毒法の利点、不利益、性能に影響するパラメーターを概観するために、その消毒法に関して入手可能な情報をまとめることを目的とした。Google Scholar および PubMed でのスノーボール検索法により、以下のキーワードを用いて文献検索を実施した:UV-C 消毒法、UV-C 線量、UV-C 光源、UV-C 修復機序、UV-C 光回復、および UV-C 消毒基準。UV-C による消毒法の主要パラメーターは、波長、線量、相対湿度、温度である。これらの最適値に関するコンセンサスはないが、概して、相対湿度が低い室温の環境では、高線量および 260 nm 付近の波長スペクトルの光が望ましい。このような光は、水銀蒸気、発光ダイオード(LED)、パルスキセノン、またはエキシマランプにより発生できる。シャドーイング、粗面トポグラフィー、高レベルの汚染、修復機序、標準化の欠如など複数の因子が、殺菌性能に悪影響を及ぼす。さらに、人々の近くで UV-C 技術を使用した場合、この技術と関連する健康および安全性のリスクがある。UV-C 消毒システムは有望な特性を備えており、将来的に改善される可能性がある。一方で、病院環境での技術の有効性に影響するさまざまなパラメーターに関する明確化が必要である。したがって、現時点では UV-C 消毒は、高レベルではなく低レベルでの消毒を検討すべきである。

UV-C 消毒はヒトへの曝露を考えると、非接触性が重要である。また、表面の曝露による劣化を考慮した対処が重要である。ヒトへの曝露を避け、効果的な使用方法が望まれる。
