抗菌薬耐性アシネトバクター・バウマニー（Acinetobacter baumannii）は世界的に急増しており、その蔓延を減らすことで院内感染を予防するために、管理下での殺生物薬ならびに消毒薬の選択が必要とされる。さらに、不十分かつ不適切な殺生物薬が抗菌薬耐性の要因として報告されている。投与法に関わらず、標的細菌を死滅させない殺生物薬濃度は、ストレス反応をもたらし、耐性機序を引き起こす。これは、消毒プログラムと全体的な生物汚染管理計画における重要な点である。殺生物薬の作用機序と耐性様式を知ることで、新薬の発見への新たな道が開ける可能性がある。この総説では、複数の殺生物薬の作用機序、耐性機序、ならびにこれらの薬剤に対する感受性／耐性の研究の取り組みについて記述する。

アシネトバクター・バウマニーはバイオフィルム産生菌であり、抗菌薬耐性ならびに消毒薬抵抗性にもこのバイオフィルムは深く関わる。アシネトバクター・バウマニーの産生するバイオフィルムの粘着性は強く、抗菌薬耐性ならびに消毒薬抵抗性への関与が疑われている。医療関連感染の予防にはこうしたバイオフィルム対策も重要である。
