動物介在療法において厳密な規則が遵守される場合、小児と介助犬との間の病原菌伝播のリスクは低い★★

本研究は、犬介在療法における患者と犬との間の細菌伝播について調査した。年齢中央値 7 歳（3 歳から 17 歳）の小児 20 例（女子 55％）を対象とした。2 頭の犬が介助し、「犬 2」 には衛生的により厳しい条件を課した。犬介在療法のための各巡回の前後に、小児と犬から検体を採取し、培養した。結果から、「犬 1」 は小児に繰り返し細菌を伝播することが確認された。「犬 2」 は細菌はまったく伝播されなかった。結論として、犬介在療法では犬と小児との間で細菌伝播は起こりうるが、簡便な感染制御策により予防可能である。
監訳者コメント：
耐性菌保菌、皮膚病変および広範囲な創傷、免疫低下症状 下痢、放射線検査、外科手術などがない事を確認した患者を対象に実施し、介助犬は毎回シャワーを浴びそしてきれいに乾かされている。また、次の患者への接触は最低でも 24 時間あけた。実際に本論文で実施された感染制御策としては、前後の手指消毒、ベッド上にカバーをひきその上に犬を乗せること、犬との接触後は服や寝間着は交換、接触したおもちゃや環境表面は消毒、床も前後で清掃掃除された。なかでも、犬に舐めさせない、餌などは直接触れずに与えることで感染予防ができることを強調している。 また犬の訪問前後で環境整備（清掃消毒）をすることが必要であり、それは人から犬に感染し、犬を経由して他の患者に感染することを防ぐためである。日本でも今後動物療法における感染対策の参考となる。
