本研究ではエンベロープウイルスに対する環境消毒薬としてのオラネキシジングルコン酸塩の可能性を、懸濁試験および 3 種類の非多孔質表面試験によって検討した。懸濁試験ではオラネキシジングルコン酸塩は即時の殺ウイルス効果を示した。加えて非多孔質表面試験によって、水性製剤の即時効果は弱いが最終的な殺ウイルス効果は消毒用エタノールに勝ることが明らかになった。さらに、オラネキシジングルコン酸塩の有効性は環境表面上で乾燥した後でも持続した。本研究によって、エンベロープウイルスの感染制御における環境消毒薬としてのオラネキシジングルコン酸塩の利用可能性が明らかになった。

監訳者コメント：

ビグアナイド系消毒剤であるオラネキシジングルコン酸塩は日本では手術部位（手術野）の皮膚の消毒においてのみ適応のある消毒剤である。環境のウイルスを標的に使用するメリットについては疑問が残るが、エンベロープのあるウイルスであれば環境消毒にも本消毒薬は使用可能であるという報告である。
