新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）は世界的な健康上の脅威であり、世界中で莫大な数の感染確認症例および死亡が発生している。呼吸器飛沫およびエアロゾルで汚染された表面との接触によるヒト‐ヒト間伝播はウイルス拡散の主要経路である。新型コロナウイルス（SARS-CoV-2）は空気中および表面に数時間から数日残存することができるので、ウイルスの拡散を減少させるためには、個別の衛生管理の手法を観察するのに加えて頻繁に接触する表面および高リスクの部屋を消毒することが必要である。本稿では新型コロナウイルスに対する効果的な消毒方法である可能性が高いオゾンガスの使用に関する調査を報告する。

SARS-CoV-2 に対するオゾンの消毒効果はいくつも報告されているが、一方で人体に健康被害が生じる可能性がある。人に無害でかつ、ウイルスに有効な濃度は確立されていないので、有人環境でオゾンを使用するのは慎重に判断する必要がある。
