帝王切開はよくみられる手技で、すべての分娩の 29％を占める。手術部位感染症（SSI）は、あらゆる外科的手技に伴うリスクである。感染予防・制御の監督能力も有する助産師の主導による、帝王切開に関連する SSI 有病率調査プログラムを実施して、本国民保健サービストラスト内の帝王切開に関連する SSI の有病率を調べた。3 か月の期間（2012 年 6 月から 8 月）にわたる帝王切開に関連する SSI の初期の有病率は 26％ であった。帝王切開に関連する SSI の有病率を下げることを目的として、対象を絞った介入を実施し、2019 年には 8％まで低下した。病院側は、帝王切開に関連する SSI の有病率に関するサーベイランスおよび予防プログラムの実施を検討すべきである。真の利益は、最小限の資源により実現される。

監訳者コメント：

英国での報告で、帝王切開の SSI の有病率が 26％と高かったことも興味深いが、比較的簡便な介入で 8％まで低下したことは素晴らしい。
