Heat stress and PPE during COVID-19: impact on healthcare workers’ performance, safety and wellbeing in NHS settings

個人防護具（PPE）は熱ストレスを高め、これによりPPE 装着者のパフォーマンス、安全性および健康状態に悪影響を及ぼす可能性がある。このような見地から、英国において新型コロナウイルスパンデミック時に PPE 装着を義務付けられている医療従事者に対して調査票を配布して、認識されている熱ストレスのレベルとその結果について評価を試みた。回答者は、いくつかの熱関連疾患の症状を経験していること、また熱ストレスにより認知機能および身体機能の両方が低下することを報告した。回答者の大部分は、PPE の装着により自身の業務の遂行が困難になると述べた。これらの回答、およびその他の回答から、パンデミック時に医療従事者が PPE を装着する場合の回復力を改善するために、現行の業務実践に変更を加えることが急務であることが示唆される。

PPE による熱ストレスによる着用者の認知機能、身体機能が低下を評価した研究である。PPE 着用者のパフォーマンスを向上させ、安全性を確保するためには PPE を着用する時間を制限したり、より涼しい作業環境を提供することは重要である。COVID-19 入院施設関係者には一読をお奨めしたい論文である。
