商品化された静電ワイプでの院内ウイルス検出プロトコルの性能について、サイトメガロウイルス、アデノウイルス、インフルエンザウイルスの懸濁液を静電ワイプに含浸させ、プロトコルの回収効率・再現性・検出限界を測定することにより実験的に評価した。プロトコルは 4 log₁₀ のウイルス遺伝子コピー数の検出に十分な感度であった。インフルエンザ RNA は、室温で少なくとも 4 日間、静電ワイプ上に安定していた。インフルエンザ感染患者の 32 病室の高所に静電ワイプを設置したところ、静電ワイプの 75％（24 病室）でインフルエンザ RNA が検出でき、静電ワイプは空中浮遊インフルエンザウイルス検出のための簡便かつ信頼性の高い方法であることが示唆される。

インフルエンザの呼吸器感染症のエアロゾル感染は医療現場で取り扱われることはあまりなかったが、新型コロナウイルス感染症も含め再検討が必要だろう。空中浮遊ウイルスについては簡便で信頼性の高い採取方法がなかったが、静電ワイプがそのひとつとなりうる。
