Effectiveness of a plasma treatment device on microbial air quality in a hospital ward, monitored by culture

本研究では、アイルランドのコーク大学病院の成人呼吸器病棟における 4 床の病室内での 14 日間の介入中の空中細菌および表面の細菌の数に対するプラズマ処理の有効性を分析した。落下菌測定法と表面スワブを用いて 100 リットルの空気サンプルを平日に連日 1 日 2 回、4 週間採取した。プラズマ処理は空中細菌と真菌に対して培養で検出できるほどの効果を示さなかった。しかし、培養ベースのサンプル採取は効果を検出するのに感度が不十分であるという可能性や、または今回の試験期間はプラズマ処理が複雑な環境に作用するには不十分であったという可能性を排除できない。

COVID-19 以降、様々な微生物でエアロゾルによる感染が再評価されてきている。本研究は病室の空気をエアーサンプリングにより回収して、浮遊細菌、真菌を培養して評価しているが、プラズマ処理による十分な効果が認めなかった。
