密着性が高い filtering facepiece（FFP3）マスクは、新型コロナウイルス（COVID- 19）流行下でのエアロゾル発生手技の際に呼吸器防護具として必須のものであり、マスクの密着性が完全であるかを評価するためのフィットテストが必要である。顔面のひげは、完全な密着性を達成するための障害になると考えられている。筆者らは、Singh Thattha 法と呼ばれる、マスク下の顎ひげカバーについて、顎ひげが十分ある場合の透過率が定性的フィットテストでは 25/27（92.6％）、定量的フィットテストでは 5/5（100％）であったことを報告する。よりしっかりしたタイプの FFP3 マスクは、より効果が高かった。Singh Thattha 法は、ひげを剃ることができない人にとって、マスクを安全に着用するうえで効果的な解決策となる可能性がある。

監訳者コメント：
個人的または宗教的な理由でひげを剃ることができない人で、N95 マスクのフィットテストに合格できない場合は、代替品として電動空気浄化呼吸器（PAPR）などの使用が推奨される。しかし、こうした顎ひげカバーを付けることにより、N95 マスクを着用する選択肢を増やすことができる。
