乾燥した接種菌付着物が銅製の抗菌性表面の有効性に及ぼす影響

背景
抗菌性表面の医療環境への導入は、表面上の病原体の存在を著しく減少させることにより医療関連感染症の発生率に対して良い影響を与えると考えられている。
目的
抗菌性表面の殺菌効果の測定を目的とする乾燥した接種細菌を用いた新たな有効性試験に関して報告すること。
方法
黄色ブドウ球菌(Staphylococcus aureus)またはアシネトバクター・バウマニー(Acinetobacter baumannii)のエアロゾル化した乾燥接種菌を銅合金表面または病院グレードのステンレススチール表面に付着させた。環境的に適切な温度と相対湿度で接種表面の培養を行った後に生存細菌を計数した。エアロゾル化の過程および異なる表面によって細菌に生じた損傷を検討した。
結果
乾燥接種菌試験では、20°C、相対湿度 40%で 24 時間後に試験された銅合金表面上の黄色ブドウ球菌または A. baumannii の< 2-log10 の減少が示された。可能性のある作用機序には膜損傷、DNA 損傷および細胞呼吸の停止が含まれた。エアロゾル化の過程は細菌細胞にある程度の損傷を与えた。この作用を考慮すると、銅表面の抗菌活性は明らかであった。
結論
本試験により表面への接種細菌の現実的な付着が示され、それによって in vitro で乾燥した抗菌性環境表面の有効性を評価する現実的なプロトコールがもたらされた。

監訳者コメント
銅が抗菌活性を有することは従来より報告があるが、この研究は、その有効性を確認するための検査法を検討したものである。筆者らは、より現実の状況に近い環境としてエアロゾル化した菌を付着する方法で実験を行った。普遍化できるかどうかが今後の課題と思われた。
