本研究の目的は、フランスの病院における清潔手術前の鼻腔内スクリーニングおよび除菌の手順について記述することであった。参加者の情報は、2018 年 6 月に French Society for Infection Control の会員から送られた。病院 70 施設が本調査に参加した。これらのうち 40％（N ＝ 28）が施設内で除菌手順を採用していると述べ、うち64％（N ＝ 18）が整形外科、56％（N ＝ 15）が心臓外科であった。すべての病院が鼻腔内除菌にムピロシンを使用しており、身体の除菌にはクロルヘキシジン（N ＝ 16）またはポビドンヨード（N ＝ 10）が用いられていた。本研究は、この分野に情報を提供するためにフランスで実施された初の研究である。スクリーニング／除菌の手順には一致がみられず、その臨床的影響の評価は依然として複雑である。
