グラスゴーの地域の血液腫瘍内科における近年の RS ウイルスアウトブレイクを受けて、インフルエンザ A、インフルエンザ B、RS ウイルスの検出のための呼吸器のポイント・オブ・ケア検査（POCT）を実施した。POCT の実施前後に行った今回の記述的研究から、POCT により、結果を受け取るまでにかかる時間が短縮すること、外来患者の診断率が増加することが示唆される。POCT による所要時間（TAT）の短縮は、さらに抗ウイルス治療までの時間短縮、迅速な隔離、病院感染症の件数の減少につながると考えられる。
