背景
グローバルパンデミックとなっているアウトブレイクの続発は恐怖の原因である。医療従事者、特に最前線でこの病原体と闘っている医療従事者は、患者の治療にあたっている際に感染するリスクがより高い。さらに、病院の環境内に存在する様々な媒介物は、感染性微生物を保有している可能性があるため、感染性疾患を獲得するリスクを高める場合がある。
目的
最良の医療実践を提供するために、医療従事者自身が安全であると、また感染症に対して防御されていると感じていることが極めて重要である。本研究の目的は、医療従事者の手指衛生行動および感染性疾患に対する認識に関する理解を、心理学的観点から深めることであった。
方法
3 つの医療部門において環境の特徴について観察し、また質問票を用いて、医療従事者における感染性疾患に対する安全性の意識ならびに医療従事者が用いている対処行動（例、回避および消毒）について明らかにした。
結果
本研究において、利用しやすい場所にある手指衛生ステーションの数が多いことが、医療従事者において手指衛生遵守率を高め、感染性疾患に対する安全性の意識を高めるようであることが明らかになった。手指衛生に関連する心理学的側面に関する現在の研究のギャップに対して、本研究では、医療従事者の対処行動が、医療従事者自身の汚染可能性の意識および感染可能性の意識によって予測できることが明らかにされた。
結論
本研究の結果は、注意して解釈すべきであり、学問的により厳密な研究が今後必要とされる。

簡単な研究ではあるが発想が面白い。感染症の最前線で勤務するスタッフの精神心理状態については、今後も多面的な角度からの検証を行い支援していく必要がある。
