新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）を引き起こす重症急性呼吸器症候群コロナウイルス‐2（SARS-CoV-2）の出現に伴い、高速かつ簡便な検出技術を世界中の医療最前線に置くべきである。本研究では、SARS-CoV-2 の検出における GeneSoC（小型で、高速往復流動型の定量的逆転写 PCR［RT-qPCR］システム）の有用性を評価した。その結果は、SARS-CoV-2 を迅速に同定するうえで、このシステムの使用を支持するものであった。このアプローチは、COVID-19 患者の初回治療戦略における重要な選択に寄与しうる。

監訳者コメント：
本論文は、日本で開発された迅速 PCR の機器である。多検体処理はできないものの、わずか 15 分で従来の PCR と同程度の感度特異性をもつため、救急外来や緊急入院などでの対応に役立つ POCT 機器として有用と考えられる。しかしながら、RNA を抽出する操作が必要であるため、抽出処理の時間が律速段階となる点が今後解決すべき部分である。すでに 30 分程度でできる簡易 RNA 抽出キットもあり、それらと組み合わせれば迅速な検査できる可能性もあり、今後さらなる検討が必要である。
