ロンドンにおける麻疹のアウトブレイクについて記述する。これには、2 か国にわたる病院2 施設および 1 地域社会における症例 34 例が含まれた。指標患者が院内で発生した後、ワクチン未接種の売店従業員から医療スタッフへの伝播を介して拡散が広がり、このことは、臨床現場にいない病院スタッフにまで職業衛生方針を広めることの重要性を強調している。十分なワクチン接種を受けていない地域内の旅行者集団へのさらなる拡散は、集団免疫が得られていなければ麻疹は拡散するということを再び思い起こさせる。その後、現地における麻疹の伝播が英国において再確立された。

監訳者コメント：
病院の売店従業員を介して拡がった麻疹のアウトブレイクの英国での報告。日本環境感染学会の医療関係者のガイドラインにおいても麻疹ワクチンの対象者は「業務として病院に出入りする者」が含まれているが、実際には売店や食堂などの従業員まで対象としている施設は多くないと推察される。施設内の不特定多数との接触はあるが盲点となりやすい職種であり、注意が必要である。
